Lakis Gavalas: The Fall of Greece’s Fashion King

In the last decade Lakis Gavalas had been celebrated as “fashion icon”, “king of lifestyle” or “guru of fashion’ in the domestic Greek fashion market. However, the clothes designer, collector of ulter-expensive Hermes bags and distributor of brand names like Burberry, D&G or Dior, turns out to be a bit deprived of clothes and accessories. In fact of clothes and accessories made off warm euros.
Tax inspectors found out that Gavalas failed to pay Value Added Tax for the time Jan – Oct 2010 and fined him with EUR 5 million.
A fine difficult to be paid in times of economic crisis and recession. Now he tries to sell his huge company premises. Wanna help? You’d need only 4 million euros for 12,244 square meters of luxurious studio, fashion stage etc etc.
The economic crisis has struck not only the common citizens but also the kings. Even if they are members  of the fashion royalty only.
As Greeks love to say “times are hard even for royalties”….
